CARNAGE Map and Areas Guide
Every zone, every spawn, and the deathmatch that unlocks Survivor.
The CARNAGE map is divided into six numbered areas. Each area has its own furniture layout, food density, weapon spawn chances, and strategic value. Knowing which area to patrol, which to avoid, and where to run after a kill is as important as knowing which weapon to pick up. This guide covers every area in detail.
The map and tasks page covers task locations and completion order. This page covers layout, spawns, and tactical use.
Area 1 — Starting zone
Area 1 is where every round begins. Eight players spawn here with basic weapons (often Gloves) and access to the first set of furniture. Food is moderate — Xebeth Cola spawns near vending-style counters and Steak appears in the kitchen-adjacent rooms.
Area 1 has the most players early because it is the start zone, but food resources thin out as players move outward. Claim what you need and move. Staying in Area 1 too long means someone in Area 3 or 4 is already setting up a kill.
Key points:
- Early-game weapon density is low. Furniture searches yield mostly food and healing items.
- The collar detonation range covers Area 1. If you hear a boom, check your distance from other players.
- Cameras were moved from Area 3 to Area 4, so Area 1 is not under active surveillance after the early patch.
Area 2 — Transit and mid-density
Area 2 serves as the corridor between Area 1 and the more dangerous zones. Furniture here is a mix of desks, shelves, and storage rooms. Weapon spawn rate is moderate — Spiky Bat and Toy Hammer appear here more often than in Area 1.
Food density in Area 2 is average. Steak and Xebeth Cola both appear, but the kitchen-adjacent rooms are smaller than in Area 1. Bring food from Area 1 if you plan to spend significant time in Area 3.
Key points:
- Area 2 is quieter mid-round. Players who stay here are usually either gathering information or waiting for someone to leave Area 3.
- Multiple furniture pieces means Lucky Student and Weapon Artist have better loot chances here than in Area 1.
- The transit corridors make this a risky area for going Blackened because footstep sounds echo through the connecting hallways.
Area 3 — Funhouse, danger, scarce food
Area 3 is the most dangerous zone in CARNAGE. The funhouse layout creates tight corners and limited sightlines, food is extremely scarce (almost no Steak spawns), and the special dorms give players places to hide and plan.
The patch notes explicitly mention that Area 3 received the funhouse gimmick and that food is “extremely scarce.” Entering Area 3 without stocking up first is a mistake that players make in chapter one.
Key points:
- Stock up on food in Areas 1 or 2 before entering Area 3. Xebeth Cola and Steak both last longer than whatever you will find inside.
- Tight corners favor Gloves and Knife over loud weapons. A C4 in Area 3 is almost guaranteed to be heard by everyone.
- The special dorms in Area 3 give players a place to hide. If you are chasing someone into Area 3, expect them to use the dorms for ambush positioning.
- Chemist’s food scan is nearly useless here because there is almost no food to scan.
Area 4 — Cameras, high-value targets
Area 4 received the security cameras from Area 3 in a patch update. The player using the cameras is highlighted in white on the camera feed, which is a critical piece of information for players trying to avoid detection. A white highlight on the camera means someone is actively watching.
Weapon and food density in Area 4 is moderate to high. The room layout is more open than Area 3, which means it is harder to hide a kill but also harder to be ambushed. C4 and Explosive Collar are both viable here because the open space handles the blast radius better.
Key points:
- Check the camera feed in Area 4 if you are planning movement. A white highlight means someone is watching.
- The more open layout means Engineer wallhack chips are especially valuable here — you can confirm who is where without entering a room.
- Food spawns are reliable. Xebeth Cola and Steak both appear regularly, making Area 4 a good resupply point.
Area 5 — Nighttime vents, dorms added
Area 5 received the “Nighttime” vents update and additional dorms in the same patch that changed Areas 3 and 4. The nighttime vents create new movement paths that are not immediately visible on the map. Using them requires awareness of where the vent entrances are.
The dorms added in Area 5 give players private spaces, which changes the kill dynamics compared to Areas 1-4. Players in dorms are either planning, resting, or setting up.
Key points:
- The nighttime vents are not labeled on the standard map view. Exploring Area 5 early in a round reveals their positions.
- Dorms create isolated spaces. A kill in an Area 5 dorm is harder to witness but also harder to explain if you are found near the body.
- Food density in Area 5 is moderate. The addition of dorms did not significantly change food placement.
Area 6 — Deathmatch arena, Survivor unlock
Area 6 is where the game ends for most players and where Survivor is unlocked. After a certain point in the round, surviving players converge on Area 6 for a deathmatch. The last player standing — or the last ??? standing — wins.
Ultimate Survivor is unlocked by being the ??? player who wins the Area 6 deathmatch. If you roll ???, your path to the unlock is to outlast every other player in Area 6.
Key points:
- Area 6 is not accessible until late-round convergence. Early-round Area 6 is empty.
- The deathmatch favors Athlete (speed and stamina) and any role with good last-standing utility.
- Survivor (unlocked) grants 45 seconds of full immunity during Area 6 convergence. Pop it at the right moment and you are effectively guaranteed to be one of the last three.
- ??? players: win Area 6 as the last ??? standing to unlock Survivor permanently.
Cross-area movement tips
- Move between areas during chapter transitions when players are distracted by task updates or motive announcements.
- The intense music that plays after the motive announcement (5 minutes left to kill) is your cue that movement is about to spike. Lock down your position or prepare to chase.
- Collar detonations cover significant area. If you hear a boom, check your distance from other players immediately — proximity to a collar kill makes you a suspect.
