CARNAGE Ultimates Tier List

This tier list ranks every CARNAGE Ultimate (talent) by how much it helps you survive or win a round, accounting for reveal timing, information value, and how the role plays in both the investigation phase and Trial. It is not a popularity contest — it is a utility map for people who roll something and need to know immediately whether to stay quiet or speak first.

The mid-article video shows every talent in action. Read the table for the verdict, then open abilities for the exact buttons and cooldowns.

How the tiers work

S tier talents offer high value with low risk of being first accused. They are the roles you want when you are trying to learn the game.

A tier talents are strong but require good timing or team context to reach full value.

B tier talents are situational. They work but demand specific conditions or smart reveal timing.

C tier talents are either too risky to use openly or provide minimal mechanical advantage.

S tier — high value, low exposure

Chemist (hold C to scan food) is the best defensive role in the game. Poisoned food is a free kill if Chemist is alive, so killing with C9 near a Chemist is suicide. Your scan also protects you from being framed by false poison. The only reason Chemist is not the sole S is that it requires you to be near food to scan it, and in Area 3 with almost no food, the ability is nearly useless.

Programmer (active file faker + armed hint) is the strongest liar tool in the game. When a body drops, Nurse inspects and reads the weapon. Programmer can fake that file entirely. This means Nurse is never gospel — you always need a second source. Programmer also hints at who is holding weapons, giving you a head start before the kill announcement.

Nurse (active corpse inspect) gives the cleanest information in the game: exact time of death and exact weapon used. It is not S solely because Programmer can fake the file and because announcing Nurse early makes you first body.

A tier — powerful with caveats

Affluent Progeny (passive coin/ticket doubler) has no risk and no reveal requirement. Doubling code payouts and match rewards compounds fast. It does not help you survive a round directly, but it makes every other session more productive. Still A because it changes nothing about your immediate survival odds.

Athlete (passive speed/stamina/health boost) is the best raw survival buff. Higher run speed, more stamina, more health. If you get jumped, Athlete gets away. If you need to outrun a collar detonation or catch up to a kill scene, Athlete does it. A only because it does not directly contribute information or defense.

Engineer (active wallhack chip) places a device that reveals all participants through walls for a short window. Excellent for tracking movement and confirming alibis. Falls to B if two players claim the same route and one is lying.

Photographer (active room snapshot) freezes the room visually before Maid cleans it or before a body is moved. The single best counter to Cosplayer and Maid, and essential for confirming what a crime scene looked like at a specific time.

Bomber (passive C4 vision + stronger explosions) sees other C4 before it detonates and deals bonus damage. Counterintelligence and chaos management. B because it requires others to plant C4 first.

B tier — situational and timing-dependent

Debater (passive extra truth bullet + longer Trial turns) is strong in Trial but requires the game to reach that phase. Extra bullet coverage and longer speech time can swing close votes. B because it does nothing pre-Trial and because many rounds end before the formal vote.

Maid (active personal blood clean) cleans blood off you but not off floors. Essential for Blackened survival post-kill, but announcing Maid early paints a target. Best revealed only when you need to explain why you were near a crime scene.

Lucky Student (passive empty furniture loot + survives Final Death Room chance) is a loot accelerator and a safety net. Empty furniture normally yields nothing — Lucky Student pulls weapons from it. The Final Death Room survival chance bypass is also unique. B because loot is random and the Final Death Room is rare.

Weapon Artist (passive multi-furniture weapon pull) is a stronger loot version of Lucky Student. Pulling multiple weapons from a single furniture piece is devastating for arming or for framing. B because it still depends on furniture spawning weapons.

Cosplayer (active face copy) copies another participant’s appearance. Useful for frame jobs and misdirection, but two identical appearances in one hallway is an instant accusation.

C tier — high risk, low reward in most lobbies

Supreme Leader (passive double vote after reveal) sounds powerful but reveal timing is everything. Announce too early and you are first body. Announce too late and the vote is already decided. In lobbies with good communicators, the double vote matters. In chaotic lobbies, it rarely swings the outcome.

Cook (active periodic steak) is quality of life, not survival. Stamina and hunger restoration are helpful but do not prevent being killed. Mostly useful for Area 3 runs where food is scarce.

Musician (passive extended hearing) is pure information — distant sounds become readable. Gunshots and Toy Hammer squeaks are useful signals, but the information is secondhand and requires interpretation.

??? (passive speed boost, Survivor unlock key) is a step above C because it is the only path to Survivor. But the passive speed boost alone is minimal. Until you unlock Survivor, ??? is C-tier.

Survivor (active 45-second immunity on 5-minute cooldown, unlockable) would be S tier if the unlock condition were easier. As a reward for winning Area 6 deathmatch as ???, it is potentially the best active in the game — but most players never reach it.

Hope is not playable. Ignore the HUD leftover.

How reveal timing changes the tier

A Nurse who announces immediately is C-tier that day. A Nurse who waits until the second body and then inspects cleanly is S-tier for that round. The tier list assumes smart reveal timing — players who announce information roles at spawn will not get the value listed here.

Wiki FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for this CARNAGE page.

What is the best Ultimate in CARNAGE?

Chemist and Programmer are S tier. Chemist hard-counters C9 kills near food. Programmer can fake Nurse's file and hint at armed players.

Is Nurse the best Ultimate?

Nurse gives clean information but Programmer can fake the file. Always ask for a second source before treating Nurse's read as gospel.

What happens if I roll ??? ?

??? gives a small speed boost and is the key to unlocking Survivor. Win the Area 6 deathmatch as ??? to unlock it. Guide: secret Ultimate.

Is Survivor worth unlocking?

45 seconds of full damage immunity on a 5-minute cooldown is extremely powerful. But the unlock condition (win Area 6 deathmatch as ???) is very difficult.
